Writing music allows me to capture raw emotions & to share them. Singing can make me feel vulnerable at times, but it truly helps me grow.
Lemon - Lemon was inspired from finding self-love. With warm notes from the ukulele, it focuses on the importance of taking a step back: to experience awe & peace. I collaborated with my sister to create this video: she created the stunning lemon dancing animation.
Small Room - Small Room is about dealing with tough days. Music can take the feeling of isolation & change it. Writing music defines raw emotions; the guitar emits them. Sound waves have a satellite-like essence. Songs have the power to open the once closed doors of a small room. This song was inspired by my essay, “Major and Minor Chords.” Small Room features my guitar & vocals. It also features musical backtracks my brother, who plays the piano, created. Additionally, my sister created the animation in the video. This song is dedicated to my Uncle Hugh.
Chirp Chirp - One day I was very nervous about parking. I went with my mom to practice at a parking lot. I kept missing the lines & became very frustrated. But our windows were open, & I heard crickets chirping in the tall grass. I focused on their sound & took a deep breath. I realized the power in a cricket’s chirp. I wrote this song using my guitar. The added cricket background embodies the calm of these insects. In GarageBand I added the drums & backtrack instruments. My sister created the cricket animation & helped name the song.
Stalker - This was one of the first songs that I wrote using the ukulele. I wanted to make a halloween song & focused on imagery. I recorded the song in GarageBand, where I added drums & synths. My sister created the featured art. The tiny creature pops in & out of the trash can to add to the mood of the song.
